Born in Lisbon, in 1968, Pedro studied Architecture in Porto for 5 years, but left his studies incomplete to start a professional training in animation. His first film, Tale of the Cat and the Moon, was premiered in competition at Cannes’96 and received 15 international awards.

In 1996, he moved to the UK and completed a Masters degree at the Royal College of Art, after which he undertook an additional year as research assistant, exploring the “use of space as a narrative tool in animation”.

Since then, while developing a teaching career, he has continued to develop his skills in a wide variety of media.

Recent projects include a book of illustrations and short stories, produced in complement to a performance held at Teatro do Campo Alegre, Porto (2006).

For the past 4 years, Pedro has been the course leader of the Animation Arts BA course at UCA-Maidstone, where he directed AniMaidstone 2009, an international event that combined the production of 5 student short animation/documentaries dealing with local communities, with a conference dedicated to issues of culture identity in animation and documentary filmmaking.

Pedro is also a visiting lecturer at the Universidade Católica, Porto, and regularly takes part in jury panels at international film festivals.

He has recently resigned from the course leader post in the UK, to fully concentrate on personal projects. His most recent film, The Eyes of the Lighthouse, was co-produced between Portugal and Holland. It is a 15 minute animation, and it combines live action footage with drawn characters and painterly backgrounds.
